Understanding the Sexual Dependency Inventory (SDI-V4)

The Sexual Dependency Inventory (SDI-V4) is a comprehensive and scientifically-backed assessment tool used by specially trained and licensed professionals to help individuals understand their sexual behaviors. It's designed to assist in determining if a person suffers from compulsive sexual behavior, often referred to as sex addiction.

What is the purpose of the SDI-V4?

The primary goals of the assessment are:

  • Diagnosis and Understanding: It helps to identify if an individual's sexual behaviors are indicative of a sexual dependency. It provides a detailed, data-driven look at various areas of an individual's sexual history and current behaviors.

  • Guiding Treatment: The SDI results pinpoint specific behaviors and patterns that can be addressed in therapy. This allows for a more focused and effective treatment plan, even for individuals who may not be struggling with an addiction but want to change certain behaviors.

  • Facilitating Difficult Conversations: The assessment provides an objective framework for discussing topics that can be filled with shame and discomfort. By reviewing the data together, the conversation becomes more factual and less emotionally charged, helping clients feel more comfortable and open.

The Process

The SDI-V4 is a comprehensive assessment that must be administered and interpreted by a licensed professional who has been specifically trained by the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).

  1. Completion: The assessment is completed by the client online and takes approximately 2 hours.

  2. Professional Review: After you complete the assessment, your therapist will spend a significant amount of time thoroughly reviewing and analyzing the results before your next meeting. This ensures they have a deep understanding of the data and can provide the most helpful guidance.

  3. Processing Results: In your session, you and your therapist will go over the results together. The data provides a roadmap for understanding the origins of certain behaviors and helps identify new ways of thinking and making choices to move forward.

Cost

The fee for the SDI-V4 assessment is $150.
